Five More Years!
When we launched our General Election campaign six months ago we welcomed no fewer than
seven parliamentary candidates to the Manchester Federation Annual Dinner. The rest as they
say is history. We won all three of the local target seats. Even more importantly a Conservative
majority government has been returned for the first time in 23 years!
The Manchester Conservative Federation can be proud of the part we have played in turning
Bolton West (Chris Green MP), Cheadle (Mary Robinson MP) and Hazel Grove (Will Wragg
MP) blue.
Meanwhile here in the City our "Team Manchester" candidates (Rob Manning (Withington), Mo
Afzal (Gorton), Xingang Wang (Central) and Michelle Tanfield-Johnson (Blackley &
Broughton) fought exciting active campaigns that succeeded in doubling our membership and
financial resource base.
I am also proud to report that for the second year running we fielded a full slate of 27 local City
Council candidates. This is always a huge team effort but, we are particularly indebted to David
Semple (Deputy Chairman Membership) who was tireless in collecting the nominations and
canvassing supporters.
I am always realistic about the challenges we face in Manchester. However, it is fair to say that
the Manchester Conservatives ("The Fed") is in good shape.
With the party conference just around the corner, not to mention the advent of Devo Manc and,
local elections again next year there is plenty to see and do. So come along, get involved and,
enjoy the Party!
